Tucked away in the forests of Hocking Hills, Ohio, is a luxury cabin that was recently named one of the hottest vacation rentals in the world by a panel of judges selected by eviivo, a property management system for hotels, vacation rentals and bed and breakfasts. The properties were chosen from hundreds of submissions and ranked against features like "design, history, amenities and visual aesthetics," according to eviivo's press release announcing the list. Known as The Rocky Villa, the Ohio property includes a two-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin and offers "the perfect blend of luxury and tranquility," according to the rental's website. It also features two waterfalls, "creating a serene and picturesque backdrop for your stay," the website says.

Andre Fu, the interior designer behind hotels like the Upper House in Hong Kong and Villa La Coste in Aix-en-Provence, France, has infused his signature aesthetic (extravagantly refined, with warm woods and luxurious textures) within the confines of a particularly historic area of Kyoto. The 161-room Mitsui, opened in late 2020, sits across from Nijo Castle, an enormous 17th-century compound and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s in stark contrast to the hotel, whose only timeworn element is an imposing entrance gate — a traditional wood structure over 300 years old and a remnant of the days when the Mitsui family lived on the grounds. Once past the gate, you’ll find a glass-and-steel building, designed by the Japanese architect Akira Kuryu, and landscaping that’s meant to echo the original garden pathways of the Mitsui residence, planted with cherry trees and steppingstones that meander above a glassy pond. ☆ ‘Remarkable’ Roman villa discovered under housing development

CNN —Archaeologists have unearthed a “remarkable” Roman villa complex on a housing development site in a small English village. The complex was decorated with painted plaster, mosaics and there was a collection of tiny, tightly-coiled lead scrolls suggesting some sort of ritual or pilgrimage might have taken place there, according to a press release. The villa in Grove would have been “central for this area of Oxfordshire,” Francesca Giarelli, project officer for Red River Archaeology Group and the site’s director, told CNN on Thursday. Archaeologists found huge quantities of painted plaster. Even in the late Roman period, this particular villa continued to show signs of human activity.

CNN —After losing the number one spot to Bangkok in 2023, Tokyo has reclaimed its crown as the city with the top eatery in the region at the annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards, which were announced in Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday evening. The list – part of the global “World’s 50 Best” brand – is compiled by the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, which is made up of more than 300 food critics, writers, chefs and restaurateurs, all selected for their knowledge of Asia’s restaurant scene. Though Singapore didn’t have any restaurants in the top five, nine of its venues made the top 50 list – more than any other city. Squatters who took over a Beverly Hills mansion for five months seemed to take the saying literally. The squatters made money off of the home by hosting parties with entrance fees from $500 to $1,500, Curbed reported. According to Curbed, Yamout purchased the home in 2021 from Notre Dame Properties, which is allegedly "controlled" by Uwaydah. AdvertisementYamout took legal action against the squatters, filing an unlawful detainer lawsuit to evict them, Curbed reported. Gargiulo told Curbed that he has no regrets about living in the mansion or the headaches he brought the residents of Beverly Grove Place.
